Mishimoto® (14-19) Ford Fiesta ST PCV Side Baffled Oil Catch Can Kit
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Description
Compatible: (1.6L)
2014 - 2019 Ford Fiesta ST
After installation, Mishimoto recommends checking the contents of the baffled catch can every 1,000 miles until a baseline is established. Oil blow-by accumulation will vary with ambient temperatures and driving conditions. It is important that the contents of the can do not rise above the internal baffle.
"The Mishimoto Ford Fiesta ST Baffled Oil Catch Can is designed and engineered to reduce carbon buildup, a common issue with direct fuel injection engines. Thousands of test miles were logged on our Fiesta ST to determine what can setup would work the best. Mishimoto engineers found that most vehicles, placing the catch can in the vacuum assisted PCV system of the vehicle will yield the most amount of oil accumulation during normal and aggressive driving. Where a catch can placed on the crankcase vent system on the left side of the engine will yield nearly no accumulation on stock or lightly modified vehicles. Having only one catch can, tied into the PCV system will, by far, work the best for the vast majority of Fiesta ST’s on the road.
The Mishimoto Ford Fiesta ST catch can kit uses the Mishimoto 2-Port Compact Baffled Oil Catch Can with a bronze filter, and internal baffled to better separate the oil from the crankcase vapors. The kit comes with two direct-fit pre-molded hoses with factory quick-disconnect fittings already installed. It also includes one direct fit mounting bracket that not only is extremely easy to install but also mounts the can in a serviceable location! Two CNC-machined aluminum, ½” barb fittings connect the hoses to the can. Like all of our products, this baffled catch can kit comes with the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty!
Our catch cans are different from most air-oil-separator (AOS) systems on a few levels. First, our catch cans are not heated. This means that all of the blow-by is able to condense in the can, including low-octane oil vapors and contaminated fuel vapors. Most AOS systems also drain the blow-by back into the oil pan, while our catch cans trap the blow-by and keep it out of the engine permanently. If you’ve seen what we’ve seen in the bottom of our catch cans, you won’t want that draining back into your oil either.

KEEP YOUR INTAKE CLEAN – OIL CATCH CAN R&D, PART 1: INTRODUCTION AND FABRICATION
So far this Fiesta ST has had an interesting life with Mishimoto. The very same day that we drove it off the lot, it was rolled into our development facility and fitted for its first modification: a prototype baffled catch can kit. Why did we chose to begin with this? From our experience with other EcoBoost equipped vehicles, we know how prone these engines are to blow-by and carbon buildup. If you want to read more in depth about the benefits of a catch can, check out our complete write up on Blow-By 101. Installing a catch can right away allows us to protect the engine of our new development vehicle and gives us more time for data collection as we work on developing additional Fiesta ST parts. Last, but certainly not least of all, we asked for your feedback and received an overwhelming response to create a Fiesta ST catch can (yes we do listen to you!).

Test Fitting
After pulling it into the shop and having a quick look, our engineers fabricated a bracket to hold two catch cans (one for the PCV and another for the CCV) so we could start gathering testing data.
Initial bracket prototype for testing data
Don’t mind the explosion of color in the engine bay; this rainbow hose configuration allowed our engineers to mock-up the hoses we need for the prototype kit.

Preliminary Test Results
After a few hundred miles, preliminary testing revealed that, like the Focus ST, the catch can on the PCV side had visibly much more contaminants trapped in it than the can on the CCV side. The PCV side already had a noticeable amount of accumulation while the CCV side only had a thin coating along the inside of the can as well as the baffle. Based on this data, we decided to proceed with a catch can for the PCV side. We have not ruled out the development of the CCV side catch can if the need arises.
PCV can on left, CCV can on right
Our engineers were actually surprised by the amount of contaminants the PCV side catch can collected in just a short time. Based on this we are expecting the oil catch can to be one of the most essential Fiesta ST parts we develop for this platform. Check out some shots of the catch can removal and its contents below.
