Purpose and Function

Sealing: Creates a high-pressure seal between the engine block and the cylinder head. 

Fluid Separation: Keeps engine oil and coolant separate while containing internal combustion pressures
Replacement Best Practices

Check for Warping: Have the cylinder head inspected and resurfaced at a machine shop if warped, as a new gasket will not seal on a distorted surface.

Replace Head Bolts: Cylinder head fasteners are single-use stretch bolts and must be replaced to achieve correct clamping force. 

Clean Surfaces: Ensure the mating surfaces on both the block and head are completely free of old gasket material, oil, and debris
