Description

GM part number 88958689 is a high-performance hydraulic roller lifter kit designed by GM Racing and GM Powertrain for aggressive, high-RPM engine builds. Commonly known as the "Cadillac Racing" lifters, they were originally developed for the Cadillac CTS-V racing program.

These lifters are highly sought after by automotive enthusiasts for several specific applications and technical reasons:

High-RPM Capability: Featuring special reduced-mass internal components, they minimize inertia and prevent lifter "pump-up". This allows Gen III and Gen IV LS engines (such as the LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, and LS7) to safely rev up to 8,000 RPM.

Aggressive Camshafts: They provide enhanced valvetrain stability and dynamic control, making them ideal for handling aftermarket, aggressive camshaft profiles and high-load operations.

Engine Platforms: They are a popular upgrade or direct replacement part for various GM V8 applications, including the Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro, and Cadillac CTS-V.

Chevrolet Models

Corvette: C5 (1997–2004), C6 (2005–2013), and C6 ZR1 (2009–2013)

Camaro: 4th Gen (1998–2002) and 5th Gen (2010–2015, including SS, 1LE, Z28, ZL1)

SS: 2014–2017

GM Trucks/SUVs (Gen III/IV): 1999–2014 models with applicable LS engines

Cadillac Models

CTS-V: 1st Gen (2004–2007) and 2nd Gen (2009–2015) [1, 2, 3]
Pontiac & Holden Models

GTO: 2004–2006

G8: 2008–2009 (GT & GXP)

Holden/HSV: Various LS-powered models and the GTSR W1 (2017)
While excellent for street and strip performance, they are optimized for use with single-valve spring applications rather than extreme-pressure dual springs. For best performance and longevity, a lifter preload of 0.050" to 0.100" is recommended during installation
