The MDS (Multi-Displacement System) Camshaft and Lifter Kit is an essential maintenance and repair replacement set for 2009–2018 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks equipped with the 5.7L HEMI V8 engine. It is designed to replace worn-out or failed camshafts and lifters, which are a known issue causing ticking and tapping noises in high-mileage HEMI engines.

This kit is typically used to fix the notorious "HEMI tick," which is often caused by a collapsed or seized lifter that wipes out the matching lobe on the camshaft. It restores the engine's original variable valve timing (VVT) and MDS capabilities, allowing the truck to deactivate half of its cylinders during light-load driving to save fuel.

A comprehensive replacement kit for this vehicle includes:
  • 1 Engine Camshaft: OE part number 53022263AF (or 53022263AE).

  • 16 MDS Valve Lifters: A full set usually consisting of 8 front and 8 rear lifters.

  • 4 Lifter Trays (Yokes): To hold the lifters in place.

  • Full Gasket Set: Includes a Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket, valve cover gaskets, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, and valve stem seals.

  • Cylinder Head Bolts: A complete set of 30 bolts (20 long, 10 short), which are "torque-to-yield" and must be replaced once removed
