Compatible (1.6L)
2014 - 2019 Ford Fiesta ST
This tank will not fit vehicles that have been serviced under recall #17V209000After a few hot and cold cycles, Mishimoto recommends checking the sight glass on the side of the expansion tank to confirm proper coolant level.
Add some additional reliability and engine bay styling with the Mishimoto Fiesta expansion tank. The Mishimoto Fiesta ST expansion tank has internal baffles to prevent coolant starvation from overflow ports to engine. Also, during high-speed cornering, braking, and acceleration, the internal baffles reduce coolant sloshing. The engineers at Mishimoto have also included a sight glass to allow for proper hot and cold coolant levels. The stock coolant Fiesta expansion tank is a major eyesore in the engine bay, so the Mishimoto tank is offered in polished or black powder coat to keep your Fiesta ST looking great. As an added feature, you can install your tank in under one hour!
This Fiesta expansion tank was designed to work with the stock expansion tank cap and includes an overflow nipple on the fill neck for adding an additional coolant tank so your Fiesta ST is NHRA legal. Plastic expansion tanks are prone to failure after years of constant temperature variations, so the Mishimoto tank is constructed from durable, TIG-welded aluminum for optimal durability and longevity. The Mishimoto Fiesta expansion tank is engineered for perfect fitment in the 2014–2019 Fiesta ST, and as with all our Fiesta ST parts, this expansion tank includes the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty.

SAY NO TO PLASTIC – COOLANT EXPANSION TANK R&D, PART 1: INITIAL DESIGN
Time to dive into yet another Fiesta ST project! This little Fiesta is getting the royal treatment at Mishimoto; over the last few months it has been fitted for numerous upgrades. If you are in the mood for a recap, you can check out some of the other Fiesta posts here on the Mishimoto blog. For now we’ll dive right into our development of Mishimoto’s expansion tank for the Fiesta ST.
Stock Expansion Tank
Here at Mishimoto we feel a certain type of way about plastic. It is not that we have a vendetta against plastic, but we see an area where we can improve upon some of the stock Fiesta ST parts. Plastic expansion tanks in general (or any plastic parts) are more prone to failure than an aluminum part would be. Plastic becomes brittle with age, exposure to elements, and the repeated heat cycles in the engine bay. Replacing the plastic tank with an aluminum one not only looks better, but it also would be less prone to bursting or cracking especially as the Fiesta ages. Check out a couple shots of the stock Fiesta ST expansion tank.
The stock expansion tank is your run of the mill plastic expansion tank. There are no impressive additions from the factory that we would be required to recreate (as seen on some of our other expansion tank projects). Ford did, however, have an interesting design for the inside of the tank. Lets take a closer look at the inside of the stock Fiesta ST expansion tank.
It’s not all bad! The inside design is intricate, featuring many compartments and grooves to prevent sloshing. We will certainly incorporate this style into our design because we want improved function in addition to form.
3D-Printed Version
After a thorough look inside and out, we took some measurements of the stock unit so we could create a prototype version with our 3D printer. The prototype fit nicely into the space for the stock expansion tank and there were no clearance issues with other Fiesta ST parts in the engine bay. Check out some shots of the 3D-printed version below!
Coming Up!
Now that we have confirmed fitment with our 3D-printed expansion tank for the Fiesta ST, we can move on to create an aluminum version for additional testing. Stay tuned for more on this and other Fiesta ST parts in our next post!
SAY NO TO PLASTIC – COOLANT EXPANSION TANK, POST 2: FINAL PROTOTYPE
Each expansion tank comes with an overflow hose and two rubber sleeves. The stock expansion tank is plastic, so rattling on the mounting points is not an issue. However, after upgrading the expansion tank to our all-aluminum version, we needed to prevent any rattling that may occur. The addition of these two rubber sleeves should do the trick! They slide over the stock mounting pegs to ensure that there will be no unnecessary rattling under the hood. After just a few minutes the expansion tank was installed and is looking great alongside Mishimoto’s other Fiesta ST parts in the engine bay.
