An aluminum intercooler heat exchanger is an upgraded replacement or high-capacity auxiliary radiator designed for the supercharged M113K V8 engine (and related performance applications) found in 2003–2008 Mercedes-Benz AMG models like the E55 AMG, CLS55 AMG, and SL55 AMG.

Key Functions & Purpose

Combats Heat Soak: The factory stock heat exchanger on these supercharged engines is relatively small and prone to "heat soak" (losing cooling efficiency under hard driving or hot weather), which pulls timing and reduces horsepower.

All-Aluminum Construction: Unlike stock units that may use plastic end tanks or smaller cores, aftermarket replacements feature full aluminum cores and TIG-welded tanks for improved durability and heat dissipation.

Increased Fluid Capacity & Surface Area: These units typically offer a larger core size (commonly around 28.5" W × 5.5" H) to give the intercooler coolant more time and surface area to reject heat to the ambient air. 

Direct/Drop-in Fitment: They are engineered to mount near the front bumper beam in the factory location, though certain models (like the CLS55 or SL55) may require minor trimming, bracket adjustments, or adaptation for oil coolers depending on the specific brand kit.
