Description

The Genuine Ford Manual Transmission Input Shaft Seal (part number BR3Z-7048-A) is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) rubber and metal ring designed to prevent transmission fluid from leaking out of the front of a manual gearbox where the input shaft enters.

Compatible Vehicles: 2011–2023 [Ford Mustang] (typically equipped with the MT82 6-speed manual transmission).

Application: Fits manual transmission configurations for various engine types, including 2.3L 4-cylinder, 3.7L V6, 5.0L V8, and 5.2L V8 engines.

Position: Located at the front of the manual transmission housing, surrounding the input shaft behind the clutch assembly
Function and Signs of Failure

Primary Role: Keeps transmission fluid securely inside the case while blocking outside dirt, clutch dust, and debris from entering the transmission bearings. 

Failure Symptoms: A failing input shaft seal typically causes transmission fluid leaks that pool between the engine and transmission bellhousing, potentially contaminating the clutch disc and causing slipping or erratic shifting.
