    THIS SYSTEM RETAINS THE AFM & NPP VALVES

    GM Active Fuel Management (AFM) valves deactivate (4) of the (8) cylinders in a V8 engine when operating in lower RPM's (typically under 4K). Test results have indicated that retaining this feature can improve fuel economy by up to 7.5%. Some of Borla's options retain this feature with their valves while others eliminate them altogether. Carefully review the notes we provide to determine if you are ordering the correct system. 
     
    The Nuclear Propulsion Package (NPP) option is a vacuum controlled valve on the factory exhaust which is controlled by the ECU. It will open and close based on RPM and throttle position. 

    The valves will be open for the first two seconds that the car is started. It requires time for the vacuum pressure to build to close the valves. After that The operation of the NPP is normally closed, open on demand. Have someone stand behind the car and bring up the RPM to 3,500 and you should see the valves open. The butterfly operation is tied to the throttle position sensor and the RPM. It uses the throttle position to determine driver intent. Under normal operation the valves work as follows:

    Below 30% throttle and 3,500 rpm the valves are closed.
    Above 30% throttle and 3,500 rpm the valves will open.
    Between 30% throttle and 80% throttle and above 3,500 rpm the valves are open.

    Above 80% throttle and above 2,800 rpm the valves are open.
    Dual Mode Exhaust is a feature that allows your Camaro to stay within 'driveby noise' compliance. At 3500 RPM the valves auto bypass the factory mufflers to form a temporary straight back system which allows increased airflow at higher speeds.




     

    Developing systems for the C8 Corvette presented BORLA® engineers with unique challenges, but our team was up to the challenge. Great care was taken to ensure the integrity and function of the system as well as the vehicle itself. Part number 140839 includes both AFM and NPP dual mode exhaust valves. It features the ATAK® sound level, our most aggressive sound. It provides a more exciting driving experience without any drone. It features our Polyphonic Harmonizer and SwitchFire™ technology. BORLA®'S Polyphonic Harmonizer Technology utilizes patented units that contain pipes of different diameters and lengths to create multiple exhaust notes that harmonize to deliver a clean, rich, full-bodied sound. Completely eliminating the turbulent center intersection of a standard X-Pipe, BORLA®'S patented SwitchFire™ design truly blends the combustion pulses from both sides of the engine for improved performance and a custom sound. Strategically placed heat shielding is included to prevent exhaust heat damage and protect your Corvette. It comes with 4" Bright Chrome on T-304 stainless steel tips and is also available with Black Chrome on T-304 stainless steel tips part number 140839BC, or Carbon Fiber tips, part number 140839CF. The system is constructed using T-304 stainless steel and is backed by our Million Mile Warranty. System ships in 2 boxes.

    Note: After installation of the BORLA® system, the controllers for the AFM and NPP valves in the exhaust system should be re-calibrated according to GM Document ID 5406413. BORLA® recommends taking your car to the nearest Chevrolet dealer for exhaust valve recalibration services.

    When the right notes are played together on a pipe organ, an ethereal effect is created with dramatically more acoustical depth and texture than a single note. The mathematical formula that determines the dimensions of pipes forming these harmonically-pleasing chords originated with Pythagoras, and has been adapted by Borla for exhaust applications. The exciting result is the Borla Polyphonic Exhaust Harmonizer, which is now featured in select Borla exhaust systems.

    These patent-pending units contain pipes of different diameters and lengths to create multiple exhaust notes that harmonize to deliver a clean, rich, full-bodied sound to the Borla mufflers. The mufflers then enhance this tone to the character and volume appropriate for our Touring, S-Type and ATAK® systems. The straight-through design of Polyphonic Harmonizers ensures zero performance loss.

    Completely eliminating the turbulent center intersection of a standard X-Pipe, Borla's SwitchFire® technology truly blends the combustion pulses from both sides of the engine. The result is a much more aggressive sound and improved power.

    In some cases a SwitchFire is an alternative to a full Cat-Back™ system. It replaces the front resonator and mates to the stock rear section
