The panel / cylindrical air filter is commonly referred to as "replacement air filter". It is installed in the vehicle's original airbox to replace the OEM air filter. It is made of highly performing materials that allow an increased air flow combined with a more efficient filtration, guaranteeing containment of all impurities from as small as 7 microns (compared to OEM's 10 microns).

BMC air filters are produced using a "Full Moulding" system that enables the characteristic red filter to be realized from a single mould with no welded joints thus avoiding easy breakage. The rubber used in BMC air filtering systems has a long life, is very durable and has optimum adhesion characteristics to all shapes of airboxes.

BMC filters are made of a multi-layered cotton gauze soaked with low viscosity oil covered with an epoxy coated alloy mesh to ensure protection from petrol fumes and oxidization due to air humidity.

All BMC air filters are pre-oiled, and they can be washed and regenerated by using the appropriate BMC regeneration kit.

BMC Air Filter is one of the most renown brand in the motorcycle and automotive industries. Based in Bologna, Italy, BMC is now an international company with branches in Germany, China and India, along with over 94 distributors all over the world. BMC produces the world's best quality air filters for racing, street use and composite parts.

The Vision - BMC's main aim is about bringing knowledge and passion from the race into the everyday vehicle.  Directly from competition, the expertise of Italian engineers and designers is rigorously transferred to street production.

    BMC STORY

    1973: BMC...the beginning

BMC was born thanks to the great passion for motorcycles of its founder Mr. Gaetano Bergami, as a distributing company for automotive products.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REGENERATING BMC AIR FILTERS

The purpose of regenerating a BMC filter, a procedure which we recommend carrying out about every 20-25,000 kilometres, is to eliminate impurities from the filtering surface so that it can be used for the entire service life of the vehicle on which it is installed.

    WASHING THE BMC AIR FILTER

    1)     Remove the filter from the air-box with the engine cold, the first gear engaged and the keys removed from the ignition.

    2)     Once the filter is removed, gently beat the polyurethane structure against a stiff surface to eliminate the largest impurities(grass, gravel, bugs, etc.), being careful not to damage the filtering element .

    3)     Clean the air-box from any impurities.

    4)     Position the filter on a container and pour the detergent (WADET500) on the filtering element, using about half the bottle.

    5)     Leave the detergent on for 20/30 minutes.

    6)     Rinse the filter thoroughly and very gently on both sides using water until the filtering element looks clean (it is recommended to use a common irrigation hose equipped with gun with jet adjustment).

    7)     The cotton that makes up the filtering element will not go back to being perfectly white, but it is enough to check against the light for the absence of any impurities or dirty oil residue.

    8)     In case there are still impurities or oil on the filter after the washing, the operation needs to be repeated.

    9)     Let the filter air dry without exposing it to direct sunlight: the filter is dry when it no longer releases any traces of water or dampness.

    10)  Dispose of the dirty water used to wash the filter by taking it to a suitable dumpsite.

RE-APPLYING OIL TO THE BMC AIR FILTER USING THE BOTTLE (WAFLU250)

    1)    Make a “V”-shaped cut in the tip of the bottle and insert the tip on the bottle itself.

    2)    Place the tip on to of the first pleat of the filtering element: proceed to re-apply oil only on one side of the filter, applying a slight pressure so as to make it easier for the oil to flow out (a continuous action is recommended in order to avoid any oil deposits).

    3)    Once the operation is finished, wait until the oil is completely absorbed; you can check this by verifying the evenness of the red colour from on one side and on the other of the filtering element.

    4)    Dab the area with clean cotton cloth to eliminate any excess oil that may be left over on the polyurethane and on the support mesh.

RE-APPLYING OIL TO THE BMC AIR FILTER USING SPRAY OIL (WAFLU200)

    1)    Evenly apply the sprayed oil to both sides of the filtering element.

    WARNINGS

When re-applying oil to the filter, you need to previously wash the filter itself by following the procedure indicated above; also make sure there are no impurities or dirty oil residue on the filtering element.

For information on the quantities of oil to be used, please consult the specific section on the BMC website: too much oil may be released by the filtering element and damage the flow sensor; too little oil may not guarantee adequate protection against impurities.
