A non-MDS lifter set replaces a vehicle's factory Multi-Displacement System (MDS) lifters to keep all cylinders firing constantly. These traditional hydraulic lifters are primarily used when upgrading to performance camshafts or performing an "MDS delete" to prevent the common lifter ticking, failure, and engine damage associated with the factory cylinder-deactivation system.
Constant Operation: Unlike MDS lifters, which collapse on command using oil pressure to shut down four cylinders for fuel economy, non-MDS lifters remain rigid at all times, ensuring continuous power from all eight cylinders.
Reliability: MDS lifter bodies only receive full oil pressure when the system is activated, which can leave the roller bearings starved for oil. Non-MDS lifters receive a continuous, full flow of pressurized oil to properly lubricate the moving parts.
Durability: Heavy-duty, non-MDS lifters (often called "Hellcat" lifters) feature larger, stouter roller bearings that can handle higher horsepower and aggressive camshaft loads without collapsing or seizing.
