The Nuclear Propulsion Package (NPP) option is a vacuum controlled valve on the factory exhaust which is controlled by the ECU. It will open and close based on RPM and throttle position.
The valves will be open for the first two seconds that the car is started. It requires time for the vacuum pressure to build to close the valves. After that The operation of the NPP is normally closed, open on demand. Have someone stand behind the car and bring up the RPM to 3,500 and you should see the valves open. The butterfly operation is tied to the throttle position sensor and the RPM. It uses the throttle position to determine driver intent. Under normal operation the valves work as follows:
Below 30% throttle and 3,500 rpm the valves are closed.
Above 30% throttle and 3,500 rpm the valves will open.
Between 30% throttle and 80% throttle and above 3,500 rpm the valves are open.
Above 80% throttle and above 2,800 rpm the valves are open.
Dual Mode Exhaust is a feature that allows your Camaro to stay within 'driveby noise' compliance. At 3500 RPM the valves auto bypass the factory mufflers to form a temporary straight back system which allows increased airflow at higher speeds.
This system produced gains of up to +9 HP and +10 lbs. x Ft. TQ., as measured on our in-house dyno.
3" - 2-1/2" 304 Stainless Steel Construction:
This cat-back exhaust system is constructed of 3" - 2-1/2" mandrel-bent brushed finished 304 stainless steel tubing for maximum strength and durability.
High-Flow High-Temperature Metallic Black Muffler:
This system features a high-flow high-temperature metallic black muffler, producing a powerful sound. The muffler has a high-temperature metallic black finish for ultimate corrosion resistance.
Quad 4-1/2" Diameter Carbon Fiber Exhaust Tips:
Finishing off this exhaust system are quad 4-1/2" diameter carbon fiber stainless steel clamp-on exhaust tips. The tips features an aFe POWER logo for a unique style.
This system produces a powerful sound unleashing all available horsepower and torque.
Utilizing factory style flanges and hangers this system is a direct bolt-on system, which requires no cutting or modifications for a hassle-free installation.
Interlock Flex Pipe:
This cat-back exhaust system uses a heavy duty flex pipe with an internal interlock liner for added strength and durability.
Muffler with Integrated X-Pipe:
The aFe Muffler features an integrated x-pipe to balance and evenly distribute exhaust pulses traveling through the exhaust system, minimizing exhaust drone and maximizing scavenging.
This axle-back exhaust system incorporates factory style NPP dual mode & AFM (active fuel management) exhaust valves which use the factory exhaust valve motors (not included). The valves helps regulate, direct and control the flow of exhaust gases by opening, closing, or partially obstructing passageways depending on throttle position for maximum performance.
Utilizing state-of-the-art computer-aided design technology, this exhaust system is designed for custom, high tolerance factory fitment.
