Like any axle we look to make here at DSS we always open the axle up for the critical dimensions but also to see what was done by GM to make this new 2016 better than the 5th gen style its replacing. they do not disappoint (maybe us a little but not you if you or are getting one) Guessing what HP ? this sort of thing is always hard but like all OE's they have come to realize the axles have to be better and this one is. We found the bars and internals are closer to the C7 corvette or maybe the CTS-v axles in the fact that not only the internal splines are much larger but the CV parts themselves are, CV's are done in series and this one is the same as the larger axles found on vipers, Lamborghini's and a few other high end cars. The axles are also done with the \"anti-wheel hop\" that in a stock application \"kind\" of helps hop but in high Hp applications causes a unbalanced strength and will basically have one axle stronger then the other.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSo, what DSS has decided to do for this is start with out with our exclusive \"Fixed\" outer CV design (just like factory, non-plunging) Back with the 5th gen car we realized with having a plunging CV on both ends there was an angle limit that can be run before the axle bar became unstable and moved back and forth causing undue wear and sometimes noise, We will be using this fixed outer so as the cars are lowered and the angle becomes greater this will not be a issue. The Fixed outer is a Billet Chromoly housing and full billet Chromoly internals, Same parts used on Carlyle Racing's corvette, American Racing Headers Camaro and many more record winning cars with out issue. The Axle bars will be larger, the one on this axle is a bit bigger then the 5th gen at 1.170 and im going to make a guess the axle may hold as much as 900hp ? The DSS axle will have the 300m Bars with rolled splines and ground centers that will allow the bars to torsionally twist but not break, we WILL NOT be making them in the Anti-Wheel hop style for this reason, with all the years and experience we have behind us we have come to realize the axles need to be the same diameter in high HP cars to ensure they are the same strength, wheel Hop should be addresses at the source (bushings,mounts ect) and when this is done correctly you will need axles that will be of equal strength. Being this axle from the Factory will more then likely handle so much power it would un-wise to make the axles any other way in our opinion.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBolt on inner CV-- This is the 1st Camaro to come with a Bolt on inner CV and after looking at the stub its our opinion that the spline diameter of 1.375 and the material its made from that the spline is going to stronger then the diff (but time will tell) This again is a good thing for you the consumer as you do not need to buy extra parts, the inner CV is a GKN 116mm version and DSS stocks this so the axle will be sold with out the stub and the costs that are associated with it. If in the future this becomes and ills we can always make it but again judging from a long history of making parts more then likely will not ever be needed as the Diff will more then likely be an issue before. So there you have it, a completely new Axle from DSS for the 6th Gen Camaro, Driveshafts are being made now and will be available like this on the site in a few days. To cover the inner CV we have developed a modified Porsche style CV that we have put the same REM polished high grade internals with that same big spline. We went on to make a real nice billet flange to stick into the Ford 8.8 diff.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e1. Full certified 300m center bars there is a reason the Viper T56 uses a 30 spline and its the reason we do too. (same center bar used in our level 5 axles for the stock rear)\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e2. certified 4340AQ cages REM polished with re-designed radiuos on the cage windows, this is a major weak point for the axle. The fact is the other axles offered for this car uses the factory cage (and even the grease)\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e3. Our Center race in the Cv is certified 300m, this should need no explanation, no one else uses this and we can prove it.....\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e4. Rolled splines,most know a forging is always stronger than billet. Here at The Driveshaft shop we roll our splines, this is by far the strongest way to form a spline and is far superior to \"old technology\" cut splines.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e5. Most balancing machines can only spin a shaft from 400 RPM-3000 RPM, although these are good machines, they do not see the unique problems that the modern muscle car presents. seen the Mustang with an IRS under it. Gone are the days when they used a Thunderbird V6 IRS suspension and put them under 400HP Cobras. The 2015 Mustang seems to have a decent differential under it. Rumor has it the diff is a \"Super 8.8\" (not sure what that means but we like the sound of it) and one of the best improvements I have seen is the introduction to a rolled formed wheel bearing. As most know the 03-04 Cobra had the same wheel bearing and spline size as the 6 cylinder Thunderbird, and after putting any HP into them the spline and bearing would break. We used custom hubs to stop the spline breakage but still the wheel bearing was an issue. Well say goodbye to both issues, as the new Mustang has a full 32 spline going into the hub and a beefy 34 spline into the diff, up from the 31 spline of yesteryear.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSo what did DSS do to make this set of axles the best option available?\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFirst we started with both the inner and outer splines going into the Hub and the Differential. We have been working with Ovaco steel out of Sweden and they came up with a material called Ovaco 300 that has been used by DSS in each and every IRS\/CV driven world record breaking car to date (includes Mark Carlyle’s amazing Vette running 6.82 with a 1.1 60ft time and many other cars in the 7's ,8's and 9's also). So each spline is now made from this amazing 300m material (on both the 800HP and the 1400HP versions). We then made 4340 billet CV mounts and are using our proven 108mm CV with full 300m Billet Chromoly cages and races (with the 1400HP axles using the larger 30 spline bars). This along with Neo HPCC1 grease and with a higher durometer Neoprene boot, it will handle just about anything you can put to it. We didn’t stop there, the center bars we made are done with our CNC spline rolling process, which most people \"in the know\" will tell you that a rolled spline is significantly stronger than one that was done with material cut away because it is actually forging the spline and compressing the micro structure to make it even stronger. So what we have here is a proven design, and if that’s not enough so we also have taken the time to put end caps on the end of the CV housings in case they are ever taken apart (you guys pulling the diff will love this, as the 6 bolts come off and the diff will come out, try this with a stock axle) and the caps have blue RTV inside to ensure a perfect seal.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSo here you have the best axles on the market for one of the coolest cars to come out of Detroit in a while, in stock and ready to ship…\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eJust a quick note, at this time 11\/4\/2014 we really do not know the limits of the stock axles or the diff, and the axles actually seem to be made from a decent material, but only time will tell.
